Takedown: Gi= Knocking down of the opponent to land on their back or side.
NoGi=Knocking down of the opponent to land on their back or side AND controlled for 3 seconds. A) Gi and NoGi= If not taken down to back or side then the top athlete must pass the shoulder and control for 3 seconds to be awarded points. B) NoGi= Takedowns from the knees will be scored the same as takedowns from standing as long as the top athlete ends in side control. C) Gi and NoGi It is the athletes’ responsibility to return the opponent safely to the mat.
Sweep: When the bottom athlete has the opponent in guard and is able to get on top of the opponent and controls for 3 seconds.
Side Control Reversal: THIS WILL ONLY BE AWARDED POINTS IN THE NoGi MATCHES. When the bottom athlete is being controlled by side control and reverses the position and becomes the top athlete and controls the position for 3 seconds.
Canopener to Open CLOSED Guard: THIS WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED IN THE NoGi MATCHES. When the top athlete uses the canopener, if the bottom athlete cannot free their head, IT IS THE BOTTOM ATHLETES RESPONSIBILITY TO OPEN THE GUARD. IT IS THE TOP ATHLETES RESPONSIBILITY TO RELEASE THE CANOPENER WHEN THE BOTTOM ATHLETE OPENS THE GUARD. If the bottom athlete taps before opening their guard they will receive 1 warning and then on the second occurrence they will be DISQUALIFIED. If the top athlete does not release the canopener when the bottom athlete opens the guard and the bottom athlete taps the TOP ATHLETE WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
Knee on Belly: When the top athlete puts their knee onto the bottom athletes’ stomach, while facing the bottom athletes head, and maintains the position for 3 seconds. The top athlete may not have a knee on the ground and be awarded points.
Out of Bounds: When both athletes are completely out of the circle they will be considered out of bounds.
Pass The Guard: When the top athlete is above the opponent or between the opponents’ legs and moves to a perpendicular or longitudinal position over the torso leaving no room to escape and maintains control for 3 seconds. A) If the bottom athlete is on their side or back the top athlete will be awarded points. B) If the bottom athlete gets to their knees or feet before the 3 seconds control are established the top athlete will not be awarded points.
Mount: When the top athlete is on the opponents’ torso with both knees or 1 knee and 1 foot on the mat, whether the bottom athlete is on his back, side, or stomach, and establishes the position for 3 seconds. The bottom athlete may have 1 arm under the leg and it will still be counted as mount but if both arms are under it will NOT be scored as mount.
Back Grab: The athlete controls the opponent by wrapping their legs around the opponents’ waist with both heels properly on the inner thighs and maintains the position for 3 seconds. The controlling athlete may have their leg over 1 arm but points will not be awarded if their legs are over both arms.
Body Triangle: THIS POSITON WILL ONLY BE AWARDED POINTS IN THE NOGI MATCHES. The athlete is behind their opponent and controls the opponent by triangling their legs around the opponents’ waist and maintains control for 3 seconds.
Fleeing Locked Submission: If the athlete is in a locked submission and purposely leaves the combat area.
Stalling/Passivity: The athlete seeks to avoid engaging or holds the opponent without seeking to finalize the match or improve their position. The time period for stalling is marked in 20 second increments.
Improper Grip: Grasping inside the cuff of the sleeve or pants in Gi divisions. Grasping any part of the clothes in NoGi.
Fingers on Face: The athlete attempts to disrupt the opponents breathing by placing their hand on the opponents face.
Unsportsmanlike conduct: Any conduct that is disrespectful to any athlete, coach, official, volunteer, or spectator. This can result in immediate disqualification and removal from the facility.
Slamming: Returning the opponent to the mat with excessive force. Slamming can be done from standing or kneeling.
Kneeling/Buttscoot before contact: The athlete kneels or sits down before making contact with the opponent.
Overtime: The format of overtime will be: At the end of regulation there will be a 1 minute rest. Then the athletes will restart from standing and grapple for 1 minute. If at the end of that minute 1 athlete has scored enough points to determine the winner the match will be stopped. If, at the end of the minute, the score remains tied the athletes will continue to grapple until points are awarded. Once the athletes start grappling after their 1 minute rest they will not stop grappling until a winner has been decided. |
